They chose deforestation as a global issue and explored that ‘Plants are required for our existence and in order to fulfil our needs’. For six weeks\, students explored this unit. They planned\, they researched\, they coordinated\, and they practised to make the Exhibition a success. The Exhibition was held for three days. It was inaugurated by ELC kids of AAIS. Parents and Guests attended the Exhibition on 25th of March. It commenced with a performance which was planned by the students of each group on their lines of inquiry. Parents were amazed by their confident performance. Just after the play\, the presentation started which showcased the knowledge of children on elements of PYP. The PYP Exhibition\, a culmination of learning in the PYP Years challenges the students to begin their exploration by framing their own Central Idea and the Lines of Inquiry To make their research more meaningful children visited the Adyar Eco Park and a farm in Arrakkonam. In the farm they also got involved in cleaning the weeds from the land. The day started off with the finals of track events. With the momentum rightly set\, the children marched smartly to welcome the chief guest\, Mr. Rajendran Mani\, a world renowned physique sports champion. The march past was followed by the torch lighting ceremony\, the torch bearers being\, students who have won various tournaments in the state and district levels. The children\, right from ELC 1 through grade 11\, went on to display very creative and meaningful formations\, clearly establishing their sense of rhythm\, co-ordination and uniformity. The jubilant mood soared even higher\, when hoards of parents came forward to run a race\, and that they did\, in style. The stands got even noisier when the energetic teachers of AAIS scorched the tracks in a 4*100 relay event. The chief guest\, Mr. Rajendran Mani reminisced his school days in his address and heartily congratulated the spirit of the students and staff members. The much awaited prize distribution turned out to be very special\, with Mr. Rajendran Mani patiently and enthusiastically honoring each winner on the victory stand. Mr. Palani from Dakshin Chitra was at the school premises on 10th and 11th April\, teaching students pottery from grade 1 to grade 11.The workshop was conducted from 9.30am to 3.15 pm. The students learnt how to make pots of various shapes and sizes. They also learnt the art of clay modeling\, fashioning various forms of birds and animals. Mr. Palani taught them to mould clay and how sand is used for various purposes\, the treatment of clay for a specific time to suit our purpose and the art of preparing clay for our needs. Pongal was celebrated with the children dressed up in traditional costumes. Pongal is an offering to the Sun God and the sweet was made in colourful mud pots by the children of grades 7\, 8\, 9 and 11. The children gathered together to pray to the Sun God with the traditional offering of betel leaves\, flowers\, betel nuts\, bananas and Pongal. \nGrades 4\, 5\, 7 and 8 spoke about the significance of celebrating Pongal\, the harvest festival and how harvest festival is celebrated under different names throughout the world. Pongal celebration is an opportunity to express our gratitude not only to the Sun God but also to mother nature. \nTraditional folk dances were performed to the tune of folk music and songs by ELC 2 and 3 and grades 1\, 2 and 3. The bullock cart was painted and decorated with festoons by the children and they enjoyed a ride in the cart\, as a reminder of the celebration in villages. \nKaivalam the world craft council were invited to participate in Pongal celebrations and the students were taught the traditional art of kolam. It was a two-day workshop and the children showed immerse enthusiasm in learning the ‘kolam art’ of different states in India. The programme came to a conclusion with the distribution of the sweet pongal. This year’s Chemistry week was from 16th – 23rd November. \nThe experiment was open for data entry and allowed students to analyse the levels of vitamin C in a variety of foods. The experiment tests multiple scientific skills like averaging data\, error analysis and data interpretation. \nWe at Akshar Arbol International School\, Chennai had conducted a study on similar lines. The middle and high school students analysed the vitamin C content in various fruits and vegetables and uploaded the data. The students got the opportunity to compare their results with students at the global level.
